In 1996 the Jacksonville Jaguars were in just their second season as an NFL franchise. However, even though they were a young franchise the Jaguars managed to not only make the playoffs, but also win a Wild Card game. Few, if any, expected this young team get past their next opponent, the Denver Broncos. The Broncos were tied for NFL high in regular season wins with 13 and led by future Hall of Fame quarterback, John Elway. Jacksonville did not let any of that faze them, as they pulled off one of the greatest upsets in NFL history.

  2. @1:50:45 Under the circumstances, one of the best throws in NFL history. Back when coaches had the stones to call that play and quarterbacks had the guts to attempt a throw like that. Now, with clock management, second guesses and being conservative, football is overanalyzed way too much. Mid to late 90's was the last great era of football. Now the NFL should be televised on comedy central because it's all a big joke.

  3. The opposition the Jaguars faced the first 3 rounds that year was overwhelming. First round they had a veteran Bills team that, up to that point, had never lost a home playoff game. Denver, who never lost at home that season prior to the playoff game. Then the Patriots, who had arguably one of the best coaching staffs of that era with Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick. Just look at some of the talent they had to face as well. Jim Kelly, Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, Bruce Smith, Bryce Paup, Chris Spielman, John Elway, Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe, Steve Atwater, Drew Bledsoe, Curtis Martin, Ben Coates, Chris Slade, Willie Mcginest. Not to mention the head coaches with Marv Levy, Mike Shannahan and Bill Parcells.

  4. Soooo stoked….My Jaguars traveling to Pittsburgh next weekend to face the heavily favored Steelers in an AFC DIVISION game….the man who helped get us there…the SAME man who head coached this 96 team….the legendary TOM COUGHLIN!!…GO JAGUARSSSS

  5. Wow this was the year I was born. Love the Jags. Glad the NFL is uploading something for me to learn about my team. It's one thing to read about but another to watch it.

  6. Please keep posting more of these. These are great. Nobody is gonna pay for this stuff but this is a great way for the NFL to make money and the fans to catch a break and enjoy something that the NFL has to offer that isn't overpriced. The NFL is pricing the working man out of the sport.

  7. 17.20 them jags took out DavisπŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„…but yeah had 2 cone back and come back and reminisce cuz I feel like it's about to start up again go jagsπŸ†πŸ€™πŸΎπŸ†πŸ€™πŸΎπŸ†πŸ€™πŸΎπŸ†πŸ€™πŸΎπŸ†πŸ€™πŸΎ

  8. Oh man this the game that made me a super fan of the Jaguars. I've been a die hard fan ever since. Good job jags of old. Come on jags I feel a super bowl coming on.1 second agoβ€’

  9. We were at a pool hall watching this awesome game. I bet my bro and dad $50 bucks on this game. Funny thing on the way home, the Eagles song New Kid in Town was playing on the radio hahaha classic.

  10. This game was an absolute shock, and not called Ambush at Mile High without reason. The Broncos finished 13-3, Jax only 9-7, and barely won the wildcard game against Buffalo, only after Jim Kelly got hurt.

But the Jags were on a hot winning streak. In fact, had they not turned the ball over 4 times against the Pats the following week, they would have gone to the SB.

  11. Great quality of a famous game. Thanks all around!!

1:28:00 – much has to do with my childishness, but I will never forget the image of Michael Dean Perry sauntering off like a moron; this was offsides/not getting off the field in the extreme. I remember in the sports bar a fan yelling "that guy's still way inside the field of play!" At such a critical point in the game, too, and the idiot had the nerve to argue with the refs; I agree with anyone that those can be ticky-tack and even 'missed' by the officials if within a matter of inches, but MY GOD Perry was almost in the same line horizontally with the outside players who were covering the ball! He's closer to the chalked 40> than the sideline!!!

  12. Michael Dean Perry lost this game. The refs also played a huge role calling off the interception. That was a 14 point swing. It's actually unbelievable Elway almost won this game with all that stacked against him in the 4th qtr.

  13. 1st time watching this since 96. What do you know !? The fng refs stole this from the broncos! Denvers INT up 12-3 at the jags 20 called off! The game probably gets out of reach there!

  14. I hate how new NFL fans have this misconception that the Jags have always been terrible just because they have been a bad team for the past 10 years. This late 90's Jags team with Coughlin, Brunnell, Taylor, Bosselli, etc was amazing, especially in 1999 where they went 14-2 and absolutely destroyed Marino and the Dolphins in the playoffs. They were one of the best teams to never win a ring in my opinion, and they probably would have at least made the Super Bowl that year had the Titans not existed to beat them three times that year.

  15. Mark looking like Aaron Rodgers out here! Good game jags, I'm a bronco fan and I always wanted to know what happened on this Sunday. And now I know, this dude was killing us and he threw 4300 yards that season too? Dude killed it

  16. A testament to Mark Brunell's prime in the late 90s. He's right up there with Ken Anderson and Dave Krieg on the list of truly underrated, underappreciated QBs. Sure, he picked up a ring the easy way when he was Brees' backup with the '09 Saints, but he never got one as a starter.

  17. Big playoff upset; as was Jets over Pats in 2010; Jets over Chargers a year earlier, SD over Pittsburgh in the 94 AFC championship. I'd still put Minnesota over San Fran in 1987 as the biggest of my lifetime.
